Dutch Bros is built around the drive-thru. Most locations have no dining room, no counter and no table service — you order from a car, from a walk-up window, or in the app for pickup. Once you know that, the rest is just deciding what to ask for.
The four ways to order
- Drive-thru. The default. Expect a broista to walk the queue with a tablet and take your order before you reach the window — the line moves faster than its length suggests.
- Walk-up window. Most shops have one. Same menu, same speed, no car needed.
- The app (Order Ahead). Build and pay in advance, then collect at the drive-thru or the window. This is pickup — it does not deliver.
- Online for pickup. Available at some locations through the website.
Ordering in the app, step by step
- Download and sign in. iOS and Android. The account doubles as yourrewards account, so points accrue from the first order.
- Set your location. Pick the shop you will collect from. If Order Ahead is greyed out, that shop is not offering it right now — drive up instead.
- Build the drink. Size, base, milk, syrups, toppings. Every customisation you would ask for at the window is in here, which makes the app the easiest way to place a complex order without holding up the queue.
- Pay in the app, then choose drive-thru or walk-up collection.
- Save it as a favourite. Re-ordering a saved build is two taps, and it is the main reason to use the app at all.
Turn on notifications — the app tells you when the drink is made, and the shop is not holding it under a heat lamp.
Delivery
Delivery is handled entirely by DoorDash and Uber Eats, and whether it exists at all depends on your city and your nearest shop. Two things follow: the menu on those platforms may be narrower than the shop's, and a blended drink that spends twenty minutes in a car is not the drink the barista made. Iced and hot drinks travel better than Freezes and Frosts.
What to order
The reliable picks, and what is in them:
- Golden Eagle — caramel and vanilla breve. The house default, hot or iced.
- Annihilator — chocolate macadamia nut and espresso. Nutty, less sweet.
- Caramelizer — caramel mocha with espresso.
- Kicker — Irish cream breve with espresso.
- White Chocolate Mocha — the smooth, sweet one.
- A Rebel — the house energy base, any fruit flavour. Iced or blended.
- A Frost — the milkshake line, if you want dessert rather than coffee.
For the full picture, the best drinks guide breaks the menu down by category with prices, and the secret menu covers the off-board builds. Ordering off-menu is easiest at the window — the app only lists what is on the board.
Low-calorie and sugar-free orders
The lightest things you can order, as published:
| Drink | Approx. calories |
|---|---|
| Cold Brew | 5–10 cal |
| Sugar-Free Rebel | 10–50 cal |
| Small Iced Coffee | 60–80 cal |
| Kids Drinks (small) | 100–150 cal |
And how to lighten what you already like:
| Drink | Order it like this |
|---|---|
| Cold Brew | Black, or with almond milk |
| Iced Coffee | Low-calorie syrup or skim milk |
| Tea | Unsweetened or lightly sweetened |
| Smoothie | Ask for less syrup, or a natural fruit base |
The levers, roughly in order of effect: size down; chooseiced or cold brew over blended; swap to almond, oat or skim milk; take sugar-free syrups (a straight 1:1 swap that leaves the caffeine untouched); and skip the whipped cream, soft top and drizzles, which are pure addition.
Four sugar-free orders that work as stated: a sugar-free vanilla iced coffee with almond milk; a sugar-free caramel Rebel with no drizzle; an Americano with a sugar-free syrup; and a hot tea with a sugar-free flavour shot. Exact figures are on thenutrition facts page.
Keto orders
Keto at Dutch Bros means going coffee-first and cutting the carbs from the syrups: order anAmericano or cold brew, ask for sugar-free syrup, and takeheavy cream, half-and-half or unsweetened almond milk instead of regular milk. Skip whipped cream, drizzles and toppings.
Builds that work: a sugar-free Golden Eagle with heavy cream, cold brew with sugar-free vanilla and cream, or an Americano with a sugar-free flavour.
Cancelling and tracking
An app order moves through three states: received, in preparation, and ready for pickup. The window between them is short — drinks are made to order within a couple of minutes, which is exactly why there is no self-serve cancel button once the order lands at the shop.
If you need to cancel, call the shop directly and ask. For a DoorDash or Uber Eats order, cancel through that platform, not through Dutch Bros. Before you drive out, it is worth checking your shop's hours — a few close earlier than the chain standard.
